Biodegradable Material Featuring Embedded Silicon-on-Silk

چکیده

University have developed an approach of integrating single crystalline silicon electronics, made out of nanomembranes, into silk that is both biocompatible and absorbable by the body. This can lead to the introduction of monitors and therapeutic devices into spaces where traditional electronics cannot function safely. The small size of the thin silicon circuits avoids adverse biological reactions while the silk conforms to tissue and dissolves harmlessly over time, factors that make the technology ideal for safely integrating biomedical devices into the human body. Monitors are not the only potential integrative application. The technology could be used to create electrodes for brain-machine interfaces such as prostheses. The researchers report that the paper outlines strategies for " integrating single crystalline silicon electronics, where the silicon is in the form of nanomembranes, onto water soluble and biocompatible silk substrates, " they add. " Electrical, bending, water dissolution, and

Spider silk thread as a fiber optic chemical sensor

Several research teams have recently highlighted how silk can be used as an optical material. Through a regeneration process, it is possible to obtain silk films made from fibers of silk cocoons, by casting a silk fibron solution on an appropriate surface. These transparent films have been used tomake optical devices such as diffraction gratings, phase masks, and photonic crystal lattices.1 Our...

Biomimetic Nanofibrillation in Two-Component Biopolymer Blends with Structural Analogs to Spider Silk

Despite the enormous potential in bioinspired fabrication of high-strength structure by mimicking the spinning process of spider silk, currently accessible routes (e.g., microfluidic and electrospinning approaches) still have substantial function gaps in providing precision control over the nanofibrillar superstructure, crystalline morphology or molecular orientation. Here the concept of biomim...

On the Magneto-Thermo-Elastic Behavior of a Functionally Graded Cylindrical Shell with Pyroelectric Layers Featuring Interlaminar Bonding Imperfections Rested in an Elastic Foundation

The behavior of an exponentially graded hybrid cylindrical shell subjected to an axisymmetric thermo-electro-mechanical loading placed in a constant magnetic field is investigated. The hybrid shell is consisted of a functionally graded host layer  embedded with pyroelectric layers as sensor and/or actuator  that can be imperfectly bonded to the inner and the outer surfaces of a shell. The shell...
